Food

Now for the next most important section to plan for, food. Before we get to planning, first we must take stock of what we consider to be "food". I know this sounds a bit silly, but it isn't until you stop and consider where our food comes to us now, how it is processed, delivered, handled, etc. and then apply that to growing your own food. If this is what you consider "food"... (see below pic)

you need to reconsider your diet and plan for one that you can grow sustainably. Or at the very least, acquire and/store. (Understandably there will be items we can't grow on our scale - wheat, etc.) but you can stock up on such items.
So, first consider what you like to eat and then factor in the following:
Short term (24-72 hours) or on a daily basis
Med term (1-4 weeks)
Long term (1 -12 months)

What can you grow? Factor in your location, soil conditions, water irrigation, etc.  If you can't reasonably grow it, research how to acquire it and store it (where possible).

Being a healthy appetite omnivore, I have to consider life primarily as a vegetarian, so the time to start is now. While I have always enjoyed all manner of fruits, vegetables and other non-meats, it does take some getting use to. The key here is to seriously consider what all your food options are and pick the one best suited to you.

Here is some food for thought:
Seeds - but only heirloom seeds. Keep away from commercial GMO seeds. Consider your climate, your growing conditions, what you like to eat, what you'd most likely be able to store, etc.
Two places we've ordered from and received good service are:
Tomato Bob's (they have a great deal more than the name suggests)
Hawthorn farm (where possible we prefer to patronize local businesses)
